HAMPDEN, Mass.—A 19-year-old Springfield man faces charges including murder, rape and home invasion in Hampden after a 47-year-old woman was found dead and a man critically injured.
Police say they found 47-year-old Valerie Girouard's body inside her house on Main Street early Friday morning. A male resident, whose name has not been released, was found bleeding on the road outside the home.
Police say they arrested 19-year-old Jesus Garcia later Friday at his home in Springfield after developing evidence that he fled the scene on a bicycle.
He was presented at his arraignment without a shirt, which authorities said was being tested for forensic evidence. He also was charged with another rape, but prosecutors would not say if the cases are connected.
