BOSTON—Massachusetts lawmakers have given final approval to a casino bill that Gov. Deval Patrick has vowed to reject.
The Senate's 25-15 vote came with less than half an hour left in the Legislature's formal session Saturday. The House voted 115-36.
Despite the votes, the bill's future had already dimmed following a growing spat between Patrick and House Speaker Robert DeLeo.
Hours before the House vote, DeLeo challenged Patrick to either sign the bill as written, veto it, or let it become law without his signature.
Patrick responded by saying he would sign a bill only if lawmakers agreed to drop one of two proposed racetrack slot parlors, a demand DeLeo has repeatedly rejected.
Senate President Therese Murray has dismissed calls to bring the Senate back into formal session if Patrick rejected the bill.
