BOSTON—A Boston mother acquitted in the accidental shooting death of her 8-year-old son by another child has been sentenced to at least six months for lying to police about it.

Under the sentence Thursday, Lakeisha Gadson could be imprisoned for another two years if she violates a four-year probation. She was convicted last month of trying to cover up that her son, Liquarry Jefferson, was shot by his 7-year-old cousin as the boys played with a handgun.

The same jury acquitted her of involuntary manslaughter for knowingly allowing her teenage son to keep the gun in her home. She denied being aware he had it.

Gadson first told police three armed men burst into her apartment and shot Liquarry. The next day, she admitted lying.
