SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—A 16-year-old Springfield boy has pleaded not guilty to charges that he fatally shot a city man who was walking home with a takeout meal from a neighborhood restaurant.

The Republican newspaper reports that Angel Pantoja was arraigned Thursday on charges including murder, armed robbery and illegal firearm possession.

A Springfield District Court judge ordered him held without bail.

Police say the suspect was arrested Wednesday night for the Aug. 26 shooting death of 25-year-old Adan Perez on Orange Street. The victim was shot once in the abdomen at about 10 p.m. near his own home. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police Commissioner William Fitchet says investigators are looking for other suspects involved in the killing.

It was not immediately clear if Pantoja has legal representation.
