More than 100 events are planned today to honor the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the presidential sister who founded the Special Olympics. Timothy Shriver, chairman and chief executive of the Special Olympics, says athletes and volunteers around the world will pay tribute to his mother with various dedications, clinics, and competitions. Shriver died in August 2009 at age 88. Her son said the family and organization were overwhelmed with messages of support and condolences after his mother’s passing and wanted to create a day to honor her work. (AP)
