LOWELL
A decade-long study looking into the voting patterns of the city’s white and nonwhite residents is scheduled to be released Thursday. The immigrant advocacy group One Lowell and Middlesex Community College’s Center for Community Engagement used voter participation data by ward and precinct in Lowell from 2000 to 2009 and linked 2000 US Census demographics with geographic information to present visualizations of voting trends in the city. Victoria Fahlberg, executive director of One Lowell, said the study will show that the city’s low voter turnout areas are also neighborhoods with the highest number of new citizens. Lowell has a large Cambodian refugee and Latino population.![]()
