BOSTON—Hundreds of religious leaders are planning to rally in opposition to a ballot question that would repeal the state's main affordable housing law.

The Massachusetts Affordable Housing Law allows developers to skirt local zoning laws if local communities have failed to meet the state's affordable housing goals and the developer promises to include a percentage of affordable housing units in the development.

Question 2 would repeal the law, also known as "Chapter 40B."

Supporters of the question say the law strips away local control, but backers say it has helped create 58,000 units of affordable housing.

They say repealing the law will make it even harder to create affordable housing in the future.

The rally is planned for 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Trinity Church in Boston.
