The name of Salisbury’s new sewage pump-out boat is more than just a clever handle, it’s also important advice. Harbormaster Ray Pike says the Harbor Commission got dozens of suggestions for the boat from the public but settled on the name Down Winder. The vessel’s unglamorous job is to travel from boat to boat and pump out onboard septic systems. The craft, paid for in part by a state environmental grant, will help keep the harbor clean. He says the commission had a lot of chuckles when selecting the name. The winner was suggested by boater Richard Calderwood.
