The owner of a barn destroyed in a fire in the Central Massachusetts town of Berlin said about 200 chickens died in the blaze. The fire broke out about 1:30 a.m. yesterday and destroyed the structure on West Street. Richard Larssen told the Telegram & Gazette that he sold eggs at a farm stand on the property, which he has owned for about 35 years. Fire departments from several nearby communities helped battle the blaze and provided water, since Berlin does not have a hydrant system. No one was injured.
