AUGUSTA, Maine—A bus touring the country with the message that the federal government's spending too much is rolling through Maine.

The Spending Revolt National Bus Tour stopped in Bangor and Augusta before heading to Portland on Tuesday. Along the way, speakers are warning that government borrowing is plunging the country into long-term debt.

In the State House in Augusta, Tarren Bragdon of the Maine Heritage Policy Center said that for every $3 the government spends, it borrows $1. He says taxpayers should remember that when a federal grant or earmark for the state is announced.

The blue bus emblazoned with the words "Spending Revolt" started out in California and has made stops in 25 states. After Maine, it heads to New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Ohio.
