BOSTON—Top Massachusetts Republicans are standing by 10th Congressional District candidate Jeff Perry a day after a woman illegally strip-searched in Wareham when she was 14 years old said Perry, then a police officer, did nothing to help her.
U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, who recorded a radio ad for Perry, told The MetroWest Daily News on Thursday that Perry's run "an honest campaign."
Republican gubernatorial candidate Charles Baker's running mate, Richard Tisei, told reporters outside the Statehouse that Perry has done a good job explaining the 1991 incident.
In a written statement Wednesday, Lisa Allen said Perry was nearby when a second officer illegally strip searched her. She said Perry must have heard her screaming, but did nothing.
Perry said the action of the other officer, who pleaded guilty to indecent assault, was "despicable."
