BOSTON—A former aide to Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has pleaded guilty in a federal drug distribution case.

John Forbes pleaded guilty Friday to possession with intent to distribute and distributing OxyContin and cocaine, and conspiracy.

Forbes was charged in December with distributing marijuana and OxyContin. The cocaine charges were added in April.

Forbes, who was Menino's liaison to the East Boston neighborhood, was placed on unpaid administrative leave after his arrest and later resigned.

A Drug Enforcement Administration agent testified earlier that Forbes sold 125 OxyContin tablets for $5,000 to a man secretly cooperating with police and also promised to help the man get a city job.

A lawyer for Forbes did not return calls seeking comment Friday. Sentencing was scheduled for Jan. 18.
