Authorities say a Dalton man was drunk when he poured gasoline all over his garage and threatened to kill himself and others, bringing a police response that ended when an officer shot him in the woods near his home. The Berkshire district attorney’s office said Michael Barry, 46, was in critical condition yesterday after surgery at Berkshire Medical Center. Prosecutors said Barry returned home from drinking late Tuesday night, poured gasoline on himself and in the garage, and threatened to start a fire. Officer Christopher Colello of the Pittsfield police shot him in the woods where he had fled, after he jumped up and made a movement that caused police to think he was drawing a weapon, authorities said. He faces a number of charges including attempted arson and attempted murder.![]()
