A police officer charged with waving a loaded gun at two employees of a Newport, R.I., restaurant while drunk has been fired. Mayor Linda Balzotti told The Enterprise newspaper that she fired Brockton Officer Jordan James Silvia last month. Police Chief William Conlon said he supports the mayor’s decision. A police union official said a grievance has been filed as a matter of procedure. Silvia faces charges including felony assault in allegedly brandishing the gun Oct. 31 after employees asked Silvia’s friend to stop urinating on the restaurant patio. Silvia is due back in court in Rhode Island on Dec. 9.
