Officials in New Bedford and Fall River will announce a new regional gun exchange program today, authorities said. Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for Bristol District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter, said New Bedford Mayor Scott Lang, Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan, and several other officials will speak about the program at press conferences in the two cities this afternoon. Miliote said the exchange will help prevent violence and accidental shootings by encouraging people to turn in guns that are no longer used or wanted and receive gift cards in return from program sponsors.
