CLINTON, Mass.—A Clinton town official and eight teenagers, including three members of the high school's championship football team, are facing charges in connection with a party at which a man was beaten unconscious.

Finance Committee member and former selectman Mark Elworthy is charged with being at home while allowing minors to drink alcohol at the Dec. 4 party hours after Clinton High School won the Central Mass. Division 3 Super Bowl.

The teenagers are accused of assaulting an 18-year-old man at the party and leaving him unconscious in the street.

Clinton's police chief tells The Telegram & Gazette the teens were angry because the victim mistreated his girlfriend during an argument.

Elworthy condemned the drinking party and denied being home at the time.
