Governor Deval Patrick has signed a law authorizing the creation of trusts to provide for the care of pets if the owner becomes disabled or dies. Patrick signed the law yesterday, the same day he assented to or acted on 68 additional bills. The new law will become effective in 90 days. It will authorize creation of an enforceable trust with the pet as the beneficiary and provides that the trust must specify the caretaker for the animal. (AP)
