Biotechnology teacher gets top US award

A teacher at Massachusetts Bay Community College received a prestigious award yesterday from President Obama. Bruce Jackson, a biotechnology professor at the Wellesley college, was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring. Jackson was one of 11 individuals and four organizations honored. He is known for “The Roots Project,’’ which uses genetics to trace the ancestry of African-Americans to their African roots. (AP)
