The director of an EMT training course who was formerly fire chief in Middleton and Ipswich has pleaded guilty to submitting false records for classes he never conducted and then lying about it to a grand jury. Henry Michalski Jr., 63, was sentenced to a year of probation after pleading guilty Tuesday in Salem Superior Court to perjury, attempted obstruction of justice, and violating emergency service laws. Prosecutors say Michalski lied about his involvement in a widespread scandal in which police officers were being recertified despite not taking the proper EMT refresher courses.
