AUBURN, Mass.—Massachusetts authorities say a 4-year-old boy has died after falling from an escalator at the Auburn Mall.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.'s office announced Sunday that Mark DiBona of Dudley died Saturday night at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.

Officials say the boy was shopping with family members and a friend Friday evening when he fell from an escalator on the second floor of the Sears store.

Early's office says there are no signs of foul play, but state and Auburn police are continuing to investigate.

Police told The Telegram & Gazette that Mark was pulled off the escalator when he grabbed the moving railing with both hands. Police said the boy suffered a serious head injury when he fell onto a store display case.
