An 18-year-old man was shot and killed outside his home in Springfield early yesterday morning.

Police said the victim, James Rosario, was standing in front of his house, where he was hosting a party, when “a minor pushing match’’ got out of control. Rosario was shot several times in the chest, head, and stomach.

Police arrived to find a large group of people gathered around Rosario and screaming. Police performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him, but he was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

This was Springfield’s 10th killing this year, police said.

No arrests have been made, but Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney called the shooting “gang-related.’’

During the investigation, a witness to the shooting was arrested when police allegedly found a stolen handgun on him.

Raul Rosario, 20, of Springfield, was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property, and other firearms violations after police said they found a fully loaded .22-caliber handgun reported stolen in a 2009 Brattleboro, Vt., burglary.

Raul Rosario is not a suspect in the shooting.
