The US Coast Guard said one of its crews out of Gloucester came to the aid of a fisherman Tuesday who had seriously cut his arm. The Coast Guard received a call for help with the arm laceration from the 73-foot fishing vessel Captain Mark, which was about 54 miles east of the mouth of the Merrimack River, at 7:06 p.m., the Coast Guard said. The crew responding was concerned that the man, who was not identified, was at risk of losing his arm, so he was taken by a Coast Guard boat to Gloucester Harbor, where local emergency medical services were waiting to transport him to a local hospital, the Coast Guard said. His condition was not immediately available.
