The body of a Bedford man, missing since Monday, was found yesterday in a Gloucester pond, not far from where his car was left on Route 128, police said. Police Chief Mike Lane said the body of Sergei J. Samoylenko was found about 2:45 p.m. roughly 30 feet from the shore of Haskell’s Pond in the city’s western neighborhood. Samoylenko, 49, failed to show up at his mother’s house Monday night, triggering a search. A State Police helicopter flying over the pond yesterday spotted a shadow in the water, and divers recovered the man’s body. Samoylenko had been biking earlier Monday. His bike was found in the back of his truck, but his helmet was missing. Lane said a cause of death will be established by the state medical examiner’s office. Samoylenko’s death remains under investigation.![]()
