The State Ethics Commission says Winthrop’s harbormaster accepted free work on his private dock from a company that had a $2 million contract to build a new town pier. The commission issued a show cause order yesterday alleging that Charles Famolare violated state conflict-of-interest law. In 2007, investigators said employees of Boston Towing and Transportation attached two finger piers to Famolare’s private dock at no cost. They said the firm also cleaned the bottom of his Jet Ski float for free. Investigators said the work was done less than a year after the company was awarded the contract to build the town pier, a project Famolare helped oversee. (AP)
