The company that owns two dams in Taunton that have prompted flooding worries has agreed to pay $75,000 for safety and environmental violations, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced yesterday. The settlement also transfers ownership of Morey’s Bridge-Dam to the state government, which intends to rebuild it, a spokeswoman for Coakley said. Officials said the reconstruction will restore higher water levels to Lake Sabbatia and aid in fish migration. The state said dam owner Jefferson Development failed to comply with orders to fix the deteriorating dam, which officials had deemed unsafe. An attorney for the company, Peter F. Carr II of Boston, could not be reached for comment last night.
