Beach parking lot won’t be expanded

Officials in Dennis have decided to kill a plan to expand a parking lot at a popular town beach after an outcry from residents of the Cape Cod town. Sheryl McMahon, a member of the select board, said the board rejected the parking lot plan at Tuesday’s meeting. She said there clearly was not enough public support for the $4.6 million purchase of 2.74 acres of beach, dunes, and land for a 50- to 55-space residents-only lot. Residents complained of out-of-control traffic, overwhelmed restrooms, and public drinking at Mayflower Beach. (AP)
