An 18-year-old man died last night after being shot multiple times near a South End hair salon, law enforcement officials said.

Boston police received the call at approximately 7:20 p.m. and the victim was found inside El Barberitos Unisex, though it was unclear where the shooting took place, according to Boston police spokesman Officer James Kenneally.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

About six uniformed officers were still on scene at about 9 p.m., along with the homicide unit. West Brookline Street between Tremont and Aguadilla streets was cordoned off.

Nearby residents and passersby watched, curious as to what had happened. One person on scene, who wished to remain anonymous, said he heard about three gun shots.

Officers were investigating and the motive behind the shooting was not known. Kenneally said he had no information regarding possible suspects. Police urged anyone with information to call the homicide unit at 617-343-4470, or anonymously through the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS.
