Man, 34, found shot to death in his car

A 34-year-old Worcester man died early yesterday morning after being shot in the head while sitting in his car, police said. Juan Melendez was found around 3:04 a.m. on Rodney Street, as police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident with injury, a police statement said. When police arrived, they were told by medical responders that the victim had a gunshot wound to the head. Melendez died at UMass Memorial Medical Center, police said. Police said the victim’s car was stopped on the side of the road. The shooting remains under investigation as police continue to interview witnesses and collect evidence from the scene. Police said the death marks the city’s seventh homicide this year.
