TRURO, Mass.—Truro officials say their newly appointed police chief has been charged by his own department with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Truro Selectman Curtis Hartman says John Lundborn was arrested Friday night when he was involved in a single-car collision in North Truro. He was driving a police cruiser at the time.

The Cape Cod Times reports ( http://bit.ly/q8JU0H) that Lundborn was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave.

The 44-year-old Lundborn has been with Truro Police since 1989 and was named appointed in June to the chief's position, in which he is paid $102,000 annually. He is due to appear Monday in Orleans District Court.

He could not immediately be reached Sunday for comment.

Truro selectmen plan to discuss Lundborn's status in a closed session Tuesday night.
