LACONIA, N.H.—Police say the son of an elderly woman reported missing in Massachusetts took his mother to a New Hampshire mental health clinic to be evaluated and was arrested after a counselor saw her covered with bruises.

Police in Saugus, Mass., said 86-year-old Rosalyn Azarva had been missing since Oct. 20. There also were warrants from the department for the arrest of Jeffrey Azarva, for criminal threatening and assault and battery on an elderly person.

Police said Azarva and his mother showed up Tuesday night at Genesis Behavioral Health in Laconia. The councilor was concerned for Rosalyn Azarva's welfare and called police. Police eventually took him into custody on a fugitive from justice charge and jailed him in Belknap County.
