PEABODY, Mass.—Police say a Peabody man shook and head-butted his 7-week-old daughter because he was angry the baby was crying while he was drinking beer and playing video games.

Richard Elias was arrested Monday and pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and battery on a child causing injury. He is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Monday.

According to records, the 22-year-old Elias brought the child to the hospital on Saturday night because the baby had been suffering from seizures. She was transferred to a Boston hospital where doctors determined the child had suffered traumatic brain injury and bleeding in the brain.

The Salem News (http://bit.ly/sb4JFn) reports that authorities say Elias was caring for the infant while his wife attended a Halloween party.
