Lawmakers approve redistricting plan

Lawmakers overwhelmingly approved a new legislative map yesterday that doubles the number of districts with predominantly minority districts in the House, making it more likely Beacon Hill will see more diversity in its ranks in coming elections. The House and Senate maps, revised every 10 years to reflect new US Census data, have drawn far less controversy this year than have past redistricting plans. Civil rights groups and even some Republicans have praised the maps, drawn by the state’s overwhelmingly Democratic Legislature.
