A political ping-pong match over nursing home residents’ right to keep their room during short absences escalated yesterday after state lawmakers defied Governor Deval Patrick and finalized a spending plan that preserves the popular program. Known as the “bed hold” program, the initiative pays nursing homes to reserve a nursing home resident’s bed for up to 10 days during brief hospitalizations or visits to family.
