T settles suit with rail tie maker for $6m
Deal is $85m less than what was first sought
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has settled its lawsuit against the manufacturer of faulty ties on the Old Colony commuter rail lines for $6 million, far less than the $91.5 million the authority had initially sought. According to a settlement agreement reached at the end of last month with the Denver-based Rocla Concrete Tie Inc., the company agreed to pay $2 million to the MBTA this month, and the remaining $4 million over a period of about four years.
