FARMINGTON, Maine—A 27-year-old Massachusetts man is being held in a Maine jail in the stabbing death of an 81-year-old woman in her apartment.
Juan Contreras was brought to the Franklin County Jail in Farmington on Friday following his arrest the previous night in Waltham, Mass. Officials say he is expected to make a court appearance Monday on a murder charge in the June 21 death of Grace Burton.
Officials say Burton was stabbed 35 times, but was still able to call police and give a description of her assailant.
Maine State Police are crediting Farmington police Sgt. Michael Adcock with providing Contreras' name when he had a hunch after writing up an incident report when Contreras crashed his bicycle in July. Police then linked Contreras to the crime through DNA analysis.![]()
