Fall River woman seeks fresh start after prison

Carla Carvalho, imprisoned for her role in a fight that led to a woman’s death, was released in August and returned to live with her mother in Fall River, where she hopes to start her life again. The 27-year-old Carvalho is finding life on the outside to be somewhat difficult to jumpstart. Attempting to get her GED and further her education, Carvalho finds nothing but wait lists blocking her path. Still she spends most of days writing in a journal and compiling original poetry colored by her experiences of the past seven years.
