A chance squandered
Massachusetts Senator John Kerry is one of the Democrats assigned to the debt reduction committee that was supposed to arrive at a deal reduce federal spending by $1.2 trillion over the next decade. He was a picture of frustration yesterday as he lamented that the committee was almost certain to fail, as Republicans refused to agree to higher taxes or other revenue increases. Once again, gridlock reigned.
