Pilgrim to get yearlong safety review

The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station will be required to undergo a yearlong review of the plant’s safety procedures after multiple failures of the control room staff last spring sparked the power plant’s first emergency shutdown in years, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said yesterday. The decision confirms the preliminary conclusions the commission announced in September that the Plymouth plant’s violations were of “low to moderate safety significance,’’ a level of safety failure that occurs infrequently at the nation’s 104 power plants.
