Firefighters from eight communities battled a smoky four-alarm fire in a mill complex in Lawrence last night, according to fire officials. The blaze, on Manchester Street, sent plumes of smoke into the air as firefighters worked for hours into the morning today to bring it under control, said Lawrence Deputy Fire Chief Brian J. Murphy.
