Monique Doyle Spencer had never published a word when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. But the longtime public relations executive responded to her diagnosis by forging a second career as an author and frequent Globe contributor. She simply wanted, she said, to spend the rest of her life doing the things that really mattered to her. She approached cancer the way she had attacked everything else - with insight, thoughtfulness, and especially, dry humor.
