PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A change-of-plea hearing has been rescheduled for a Chinese man facing charges that he and another man kidnapped a college classmate last spring as part of a plot to steal the victim's $80,000 Porsche in Providence.

The hearing for 25-year-old Zhenpeng "Todd" Hu of Malden, Mass., originally scheduled for Thursday will now take place on Friday.

Hu is charged with kidnapping and conspiracy. He filed notice last month indicating his plans to plead guilty in U.S. District Court in Providence.

Prosecutors say Hu and his co-defendant used a key they borrowed from Xianglong Wu to break into his Providence apartment.

Authorities say Wu was driven away in his 2011 Porsche Cayenne SUV and eventually locked in a room, from which he escaped.
