Mass. Senate candidate unveils jobs plan
BOSTON—A Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts has proposed a $500 billion jobs plan that would include a tax credit for consumers who purchase American-made products.
State Rep. Tom Conroy, of Wayland, also called Thursday for the government to make investments in infrastructure, clean energy and high-tech manufacturing.
Conroy conceded that his idea to give consumers tax credits of up to $1,000 for buying American-made goods might run afoul of international trade agreements. Under the plan, consumers would be responsible for recognizing made-in-the-USA labels on products and track their purchases through the year.
Conroy is seeking his party's nomination to oppose Republican Sen. Scott Brown next year.
Conroy is calling on the Democratic front-runner, Harvard Law School professor Elizabeth Warren, to release her own jobs plan.![]()
