Mayor Thomas M. Menino grabbed headlines last week when he chastised the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association for adopting a rule that allowed a referee to slap a game-losing penalty on a Cathedral High quarterback. Some political observers took his comments - which extended far beyond the purview of City Hall - as the latest sign Boston’s longest-serving mayor is gearing up for another reelection campaign in 2013. An aide said Menino still hasn’t decided about his political future.
