US Sen. Brown to host hearing on veterans needs
BOSTON—U.S. Sen. Scott Brown is hosting a field hearing of the U.S. Senate Committee of Veterans Affairs.
Brown says the hearing Monday in Quincy will address the unprecedented claims backlog at the Department of Veterans' Affairs, and the difficulty that returning veterans face as they try to return to the workforce.
Brown said that as of March 2011, it took an average of 394 days to complete a disability claim.
The Massachusetts Republican said the delays in administering health benefits come as unemployment among members of the National Guard and Reserves remains over 20 percent. It's over 30 percent among veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan ages 18 to 24.
The hearing is planned for Monday at 9:15 a.m. at Quincy City Hall's council chambers.
