Husband of Mass. shooting victim questions hunter
NORTON, Mass.—The husband of a Massachusetts woman shot by an off-duty state trooper hunting deer after dark is questioning the trooper's target identification.
The Boston Herald reports (http://bit.ly/u0GOol) the trooper apologized to the woman's family. But the woman's husband also is a hunter and says hunters need to pay attention and know their targets.
Norton police say 66-year-old Cheryl Blair was walking her two dogs Saturday a quarter-mile into a wooded area when neighbor John Bergeron mistook her pets for a deer. Police say Bergeron called 911 to get help after the shooting.
Blair is in a hospital recovering from surgery for a fractured pelvis.
Authorities say the shooting was accidental. A state police spokesman says Bergeron was properly licensed and faces no criminal charges. The investigation continues.
Bergeron hasn't commented.
