WORCESTER, Mass.—Several mayors and city council members are being sworn in across Massachusetts as the new year begins.

Springfield Mayor Dominic Sarno has been inaugurated Monday for his third term. In Worcester, Joseph Petty is being sworn in as the city's new mayor.

Sarno will be the first Springfield mayor to serve a four-year term, approved by the city's voters in 2009.

Petty, a former longtime city councilor, won a four-way race for the office last fall.

Jonathan Mitchell is also being sworn in as New Bedford's new mayor.

Elsewhere, Michael Bissonette formally enters a new term in Chicopee, and Daniel Bianchi has taken office as Pittsfield's new mayor. Thomas Hoye Jr. officially became Taunton's new mayor.
