Athol man gets year in jail for abusing young girl

GREENFIELD, Mass.—An Athol man has been sentenced to a year in jail for sexually abusing a pre-teen girl.
Prosecutors say 63-year-old Ricky Jardine was sentenced Tuesday in Greenfield Superior Court to indecent assault and battery on a child under age 14.
Authorities say Jardine molested the girl when she was about 12 from 1998 to 2000. The victim was his employer's daughter and he abused her when visited her father's Orange auto shop, where Jardine worked as a mechanic.
Jardine was also sentenced to eight years of probation and ordered to register as a sex offender.
The victim told the court that the abuse has affected every aspect of her and her family's life.
