Foxborough area clergy express casino opposition
FOXBOROUGH, Mass.—The Foxborough area's religious leaders have banded together to oppose a casino in town.
Twenty leaders from churches in Foxborough, Norfolk and Walpole have signed a letter to selectmen expressing their opposition to the $1 billion resort casino proposed for land near Gillette Stadium and praising the board's September anti-gambling vote.
The Rev. Bill Dudley, pastor of Union Church in Foxborough, tells The Sun Chronicle (http://bit.ly/zAqpb5) local religious leaders are nearly unanimous in their opposition to a caisson based on the potential social costs.
Dudley said he recently counseled a woman whose husband gambled away their house and bank accounts at a Connecticut casino.
