DEDHAM, Mass.—Two brothers have been sentenced to up to three years in prison each for setting up an illegal basement apartment in a Quincy house in which a man and his two young sons died during a fire.

Andy Huang and Jason Huang, of Quincy, were also sentenced Thursday in Norfolk Superior Court to three years of probation and 300 hours of community service following their conviction last week on charges including involuntary manslaughter.

Both men apologized in court.

Prosecutors asked for up to 15 years, but the judge said he took into consideration both brothers' lack of a criminal past.

Oudah Frawi, an Iraqi immigrant and his sons, 1-year-old Ali and 2-month-old Hassan, died in the March 2009 blaze when the only exit was blocked by smoke. His wife survived.
