When a wrecking ball levels Grampy’s gas station - and that could happen as soon as next year - it will leave a large swath of the city without a gas station, from the North End to Chinatown, Back Bay to Beacon Hill, and the Financial District to the West End. Land here, squeezed between glass high rises and colonial-era brick buildings, is worth far more than the profits that flow from a fuel pump.
